The charm of the famous Bangalore food street “Thindi Beedi” inspired us to document this part of the city. This documentation was a part of our course module- digital media and visualisation at National Institute of Design.
Through this video we have tried to capture the way this famous food junction servers the people. In spite of having many good and famous food joints all around the city people love to come here and have the authentic and traditional street food. It is one of the famous hangout place for Bangalorians, especially the college crowd.
Process
To understand the importance of this place we went and studied the whole food street, how it functions, what are the major attractions and every other detail about it. This study involved observations, interviews and a complete photographic documentation of the street. Then we created a storyboard to help us setting a plot for the video.
About Thindi Beedi
Food Street is located in V.V. Puram and comes to life in the evening as the clock structs 7 and is active till midnight. From 5:30 pm -6:30 pm the shop shutters starts opening and the vendors start preparing to attract the customers. The crowd swells after 8pm and there is not a moment’s rest for the shop owners right till 11.30pm.
Special South-Indian fare – Akki Roti / Ragi Roti / Paniyaram or paddus / Kodu Bele, Special South-Indian sweet paranthas – Dal / Hollige, Hot Jalebis / Gulab Jamun, Bhajjis & Bondas, Gulkun Ice-cream are the must haves from this place.
Inspite of being a narrow street it is commendable to see how it houses such a huge crowd of people, all enjoying the awesome authentic food without any litter around. It is really a challenging job for the shops to manage such a huge crowd- taking orders, preparing food, serving right orders, taking care of garbage disposal, packing food and what not. But they do it so smoothly that the customers never complains and keeps coming over and again.
Documentation
To capture the essence of the food street in a video, we first drafted a storyline using an emotional journey to highlight the importance of the food street.
After creating the storyboard we went to the food street to shoot the frames as per our story. We also interviewed a few people in order to capture their food street experience.
Completing all the shots and frames, we composed the video adding a taste of fun and bonding to it.
